Specials: X-Mess

Christmas is a necessity.  There has to be at least one day of the year to remind us that we're here for something else besides ourselves

The true meaning of christmas is getting more and more lost.
People usually don’t care about being active in their christian communities. They don’t go to church, not to think about praying or reading the bible. But around the time of christmas, a lot of people suddenly change their minds on the christian/catholic development, which has been going on for quite some time now.

Suddenly, it is important, not to forget the actual story behind christmas, which has led us to celebrating it so intensely every year. People and media are all agitated when it comes to kids not knowing the christian background of this huge celebration.
That’s pretty hypocritical isn’t it?

I think it is time for us to change the actual meaning of christmas. The main focus doesn’t even lie on chrisitan traditions anymore. Familys are creating their own traditions – those traditions become very important pillars for a lot of families. Most people look forward to the christmas holidays, because they like spending time with their beloved ones – at least once a year.

The economy will continue creating a huge buzz about christmas anyways, but that’s not that bad – at least the topic of the advertisements changes. The true meaning of christmas isn’t important for the economy either.

Therefore, I think we can gladly forget the actual meaning of christmas – it was never important to me in the first place anyway.
We should realise it as a celebration of and with our beloved ones, families or relatives. We should use the christmas holidays for showing those people how important they are for us.

Just as the quote indicates – we shouldn’t focus on ourselves - for some time at least.
