Heaven Shall Burn Interview
Maik, known as guitarist for the legendary band Heaven Shall Burn was kind enough to let us talk to him before their show at Posthof Linz, on 26th of March.
As some of you might know, Heaven Shall Burn is one of the most inspirational bands for me. They were not only my introduction to more extreme music, but also to eye-opening topics such as Veganism, Straight Edge and Animal Rights.
To see how humbling these guy's approach to the music business still is was mind-blowing. You have to kepp in mind, that those guys already hit #9 on the german charts with their latest effort "Invictus".
Maik talked to us about Heaven Shall Burn's future plans, how they try to prevent being manipulated by mass media, their experiences in Reykjavik, Iceland and obscure hostilities via Twitter.
Enough with the praise,
Heaven Shall Burn is a Metalcore/Melodic Death Metal Band from Thüringen, Germany.
Formed in 1996, the band took Old School Death Metal-influences from Bolt Thrower, combined it with Hardcore-Slam parts and by that, created a then unique sound, which was soon to be called Metalcore, and should become a huge trend.
In 2004, the band released the now legendary record "Antigone" which helped them gain popularity in the underground scene.
The band was known for their relentless live-shows and their Vegan Straight-Edge attitude.
2008 and 2009, the band released the first two parts of their "Iconoclast-Trilogy" - Invicuts Part I: The Final Resistance (CD) and Bildersturm: Iconoclast II (The Visual Resistance, DVD). Those two releases helped them gain mainstream popularity, which accumulated in 2010's release Invictus reaching #9 in the german charts.
Yet, the band has also adopted the D.I.Y.-attitude and still tries to limit the label's say in the band whenever it is possible.
